Accumulating Aventura Points

  1. Each $1.00 in net Card purchases earns one Aventura Point. Cents do not earn Points or partial Points. Aventura Points are not earned on interest, cash advances, Aventura Cheques, balance transfers, fees or payments or on the redemption of Aventura Points.

  2. Any purchase credits (e.g., for returns) will be deducted from the Aventura Account at the same rate as for purchases (i.e., one Aventura Point per $1.00 credited). If the Aventura Account has insufficient Aventura Points available for the credit, CIBC will charge your Visa* Account for the value of Aventura Points which cannot be so deducted, at the rate of $10.00 for each 500 increment of Aventura Points.

  3. Each Monthly Statement sent to a primary Cardholder will show the total number of Aventura Points earned (net of any credits) during the statement period and the total number of points held in the Aventura Account at the end of the statement period (if any). These amounts include all Aventura Points accumulated by the primary Cardholder as well as on supplementary Cards held by any authorized users of the same Visa Account.

Aventura Lifestyle Rewards

  1. CIBC Aventura Lifestyle Rewards include taxes and shipping. Certain fees and expenses may not be included (e.g., if air transportation is included, airport charges may not be). Any additional fees will be confirmed when a Reward is redeemed.

  2. Transportation (including airfare) is not included unless specified nor are personal travel items such as insurance.

  3. Due to the unique nature of Aventura Lifestyle Rewards, availability of space and/or dates may be limited.

Aventura Airline Travel Rewards

  1. The Aventura Airline Rewards Chart shows a "maximum airline ticket price" for a round trip economy flight for one person at each Reward level. If the ticket`s base cost (the cost before Taxes and Other Charges) exceeds the "maximum airline ticket price", you must either charge the excess to your Card or, if you have sufficient Aventura Points available, you may redeem Points at a rate of 5,000 Aventura Points for each $50.00 in base cost. (If you reside in Quebec, you may pay the excess by cheque.) If the base cost is less than the maximum airline ticket price, no credit is granted. The Chart is a part of these Terms.

  2. Taxes and Other Charges are not included; these must be charged to your Card or, depending on how many Aventura Points are available in your Aventura Account, paid for by redeeming Aventura Points at a rate of 5000 Aventura Points for each $50.00 of Taxes and Other Charges (or if you reside in Quebec, by cheque).

  3. Most airlines require 14 days advance notice for flight redemptions and/or a Saturday overnight stay. The airline or carrier and flight route for your destination are subject to availability and are determined by the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre.

  4. At time of booking, you may purchase up to 20% of the total Aventura Points required for your Aventura Airline Reward; no additional Aventura Points may be purchased in respect of the flight or for other use. Aventura Points may be purchased at a rate of 3 cents per Point currently (cost is subject to change; taxes extra). The Top Up purchase must be charged to your Aventura Card, and does not earn Aventura Points. This Top Up option is available on the Aventura Flight Reward Chart only. Top up purchases cannot be refunded or reversed. CIBC may discontinue the Top Up feature at any time, without notice.

Aventura Flexible Travel Rewards

  1. Aventura Points can be redeemed for up to 100% of the cost of travel services booked through the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre (including, if you have sufficient Aventura Points available, for Taxes and Other Charges and for the cost of any travel insurance purchased through the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre). Choose from thousands of hotels and major car rentals, cruise lines, tour operators and packages. While the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre offers a wide variety of travel services, some services may not be available through the Centre.

  2. With Aventura Flexible Travel Rewards, each 500 Aventura Point increment may be exchanged for travel services worth $5.00. If the cost of the travel services exceeds the value of Aventura Points which are redeemed, the excess must be charged to your Card (or, for Quebec residents, can be paid by cheque). Taxes and Other Charges on travel services and the premiums for any insurance purchased through the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre may be paid for by Aventura Points at the same rate unless they are charged to your Card (or paid for by cheque if you are Quebec resident). Some taxes and other charges may be collected locally/when you are travelling, and cannot be prepaid; please ask a CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre counsellor for specific details.

  3. The Primary Cardholder may convert Aventura Points to Aeroplan®1 Miles at an exchange rate of 1 for 1, but only in increments of 10,000 Aventura Points (and only if the Visa Account is in good standing at the time). A conversion of Aventura Points into Aeroplan Miles (or into points under another loyalty program if CIBC permits) is considered to be a redemption of Aventura Points. By requesting a conversion, the Primary Cardholder authorizes CIBC and/or the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre to disclose to the other loyalty program’s service provider the information necessary to facilitate the conversion. CIBC is not responsible for any failure or delay by any other loyalty program provider to credit your account with the other loyalty currency following a conversion of Aventura Points.

  4. Prices shown do not include Taxes and other Charges, unless expressly noted.

  5. The travel services available through the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre will change from time to time. Specific tours or services may be cancelled by travel service suppliers without prior notice. Suppliers may also change prices, travel itineraries, flight times and dates without prior notice.

  6. Non-refundable deposits and baggage restrictions apply and vary by supplier. Please ask a CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre counsellor for specific details.

Redeeming Aventura Points

  1. To redeem Aventura Points for a Reward, your Aventura Account must have accumulated sufficient Aventura Points for the Reward you wish to order (except in the case of Flexible Travel Rewards if you are charging all/a portion of the cost to your Card or, if you are a Quebec resident, you are paying for all/part of the Flexible Travel Reward by cheque).

  2. Aventura Points may be redeemed by any Cardholder whose Visa Account is in good standing (i.e., by a primary Cardholder or any authorized user of the same Visa Account).

  3. Aventura Rewards are displayed on www.CIBCaventura.com and in such additional materials as CIBC may make available from time to time (e.g., in occasional special offers sent out with a monthly Visa Account statement). All Rewards are subject to availability at time of ordering.

  4. Rewards must be redeemed through the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre or at www.CIBCaventura.com . Aventura Rewards cannot be redeemed otherwise; Aventura Points cannot be applied against existing reservations or purchases previously made or for services not booked through the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre. Please have your Card number ready when placing your order and, if you are acquiring a Lifestyle Reward, please quote the appropriate Aventura Lifestyle Reward Code.

  5. Aventura Points will be debited from your Aventura Account on the date you place/book your order.

  6. To redeem Aventura Points, charge any portion of the cost of a Reward to a Card (and, for a Quebec resident, pay for same by cheque), or book any service through the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre, your Visa Account must be in good standing at the time. This means that the Visa Account must be open and no payment may be overdue; as well, no Cardholder on the Visa Account may be in breach of the CIBC Visa Cardholder Agreement. If you are a Quebec resident paying by cheque, travel cannot be confirmed until your cheque is honoured.

More About Aventura Awards

  1. Aventura Rewards do not include any personal expenses or costs not expressly stated to be included; you are responsible for any personal expenses and for the cost of any services not included with an Aventura Reward or with travel services purchased through the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre, including but not limited to travel insurance.

  2. Once Aventura Rewards are redeemed, they are non-refundable, non-exchangeable and non-transferable (unless you are advised otherwise). Non-Rewards travel booked through the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre may be subject to a non-refundable deposit at the time of booking and is non-exchangeable and non-transferable (unless you are advised otherwise).

  3. Any Aventura Rewards which are packaged for two people require double occupancy and joint travel and participation (as applicable).

  4. CIBC may change or substitute Aventura Rewards and may change the number of Aventura Points required for specific Aventura Rewards at any time without notice. CIBC may change the Aventura Airline Rewards Chart at any time (including any maximum airline ticket prices) or replace the Chart at any time without notice.

  5. You and your guests (if applicable) are solely responsible for obtaining documentation for travel outside Canada. Many countries require a valid passport; some impose additional visa or other travel requirements. Without appropriate documentation you may be refused boarding/entry/access.

  6. Specific terms and conditions may apply to each Reward, and vary by airline or other travel supplier. For example, a specific fitness level may be required for certain Lifestyle Rewards. Travel dates may be restricted during Christmas and Spring Break periods. Please consult your CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre counsellor for complete details and options.

  7. Should circumstances beyond the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre`s control result in a travel service supplier`s failure to provide a Reward which you have redeemed or booked, the Centre may attempt (but is not required) to arrange a suitable replacement Reward or may choose (but is not required) to credit Aventura Points to your Aventura Account and, if you charged a portion of the Reward`s cost to your Card, credit your Visa Account for same (or issue you a cheque, if you are a Quebec resident who paid by cheque). Regardless, neither CIBC nor the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre is responsible for any costs you may have incurred in relation to a Reward which is cancelled.

More About Aventura Points

  1. If the minimum payment is not made by the payment due date set out on any Monthly Statement, CIBC may deduct from the Aventura Account the number of Aventura Points earned in that month on net Card spending. Aventura Points may not be re-credited if the Visa Account is subsequently brought into good standing. Aventura Points will be credited to the Aventura Account only if at least the minimum monthly payment is made by the payment due date; if it is not, Points may be cancelled for that month.

  2. You are responsible for reviewing the Aventura Points amounts shown on each Monthly Statement. You must notify CIBC in writing of any errors, omissions, or objections in respect of the Points shown (or not appearing) on a Monthly Statement within six months from the date of the Monthly Statement on which the Points appear (or should have appeared) date. If you do not, CIBC is entitled to treat the Monthly Statement as correct, except for improper credits.

  3. Any portion of an Airline Reward's cost or Flexible Travel Reward's cost which is charged to the Card earns Aventura Points at the same rate as for net Card purchases (each $1.00 earns one Aventura Point), as do any Taxes and Other Charges paid for by the Card.

  4. Your accumulation of Aventura Points does not entitle you to any vested rights. Aventura Points have no monetary value and so, you cannot exchange them for cash or credit them against your Visa Account balance. Aventura Points cannot form the basis of a monetary claim against CIBC.

  5. Aventura Points are not transferable, including to another Visa Account or other credit card account, and cannot be assigned or divided in the event of separation, divorce, bankruptcy or otherwise (unless CIBC consents). In the event of the primary Cardholder's death where his or her spouse or common-law or civil union partner is an authorized user of the same Visa Account, and such spouse or partner applies and is approved as the replacement primary Cardholder, all Aventura Points will simply remain in the Aventura Account for redemption by the spouse/partner or by any other authorized users on the same Visa Account. Otherwise, the Aventura Account will be closed and the Aventura Points in it will be available for redemption by the primary Cardholder's estate, in accordance with these Terms, no later than twelve months after the Aventura Account is closed; if the Aventura Points are not so redeemed by that date for any reason (including due to a dispute among the legal representative(s), beneficiary(ies) and or other claimants), the Points will be cancelled by CIBC. Aventura Points cannot be attached, pledged or hypothecated in any way.

More About the Program

  1. CIBC may disclose information about an Aventura Account to any Cardholder of the Visa Account. In other words, CIBC will disclose the current Aventura Account balance to the primary Cardholder or any authorized user of the same Visa Account.

  2. If a primary Cardholder closes his/her Visa Account or declines to renew his/her Card, his/her membership in the Aventura Points Program and that of any authorized users of the Visa Account is automatically terminated; all Aventura Points in the Aventura Account will be forfeited unless redeemed within 60 days after the Visa Account is closed. If CIBC closes a Visa Account or cancels any Card related to it, all related Cardholder memberships are cancelled and all Aventura Points are forfeited immediately (except if CIBC simultaneously opens a replacement Visa Account and issues a replacement Card due to possible fraud on the closed Visa Account/cancelled Card).

  3. CIBC and its agents are not liable or responsible for any injuries, property damage or other loss, or for any costs, liability or expenses which may be suffered or incurred by you and/or your family member(s) and/or guest(s), or if you and/or such person(s) are killed, as a result of any Reward, including but not limited to while travelling on any Airline or Flexible Travel Reward, while engaged in any Lifestyle Reward or while using or otherwise caused by a merchandise Reward. You release and discharge CIBC and its agents from any claims, demands, causes of action and actions which may arise in connection with such events. This release binds your legal representatives, heirs, successors and assigns.

  4. CIBC and its agents are not liable or responsible for any loss, cost, damage, liability or expense you may suffer or incur, and you release and discharge CIBC and its agents from any claims, demands, causes of action and actions which may arise, in connection with any:

    1. error or omission in the www.CIBCaventura.com catalog or other sources of information about the Program and any Rewards;
    2. error or delay in crediting or debiting the Aventura Account;
    3. act or omission by the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre, including if the Centre provides information which results in travel arrangements that have a higher cost than expected or indicated or which differ in any way from arrangements which may be available elsewhere;
    4. act or omission of any travel supplier, including its failure to perform as expected or described or if travel services are substituted or changed in any way or cancelled in whole or part.

  5. CIBC may amend or replace these Terms at any time. The amended or replacement Terms will be posted at www.CIBCaventura.com

  6. CIBC may amend, suspend or terminate the Aventura Rewards Program at any time. Notice of an amendment will be posted on www.CIBCaventura.com and will be effective when posted. CIBC may suspend the Program with or without prior notice; if prior notice is not given, notice will be sent as soon as possible after Program suspension (such notice may be included on or with the first Monthly Statement sent after suspension). If the Program is to be terminated, CIBC will send 90 days prior notice to the primary Cardholder, which notice may be included with or on a Monthly Statement. Any such notice will be deemed to be notice to the authorized users of the Visa Account. Any Aventura Points not redeemed before termination will be forfeited. Any changes to these Terms or the Program may affect Aventura Points which you may have already accumulated and/or any future accumulations.

  7. You are responsible for any tax liability and tax reporting obligations arising from earning Aventura Points.

  8. The Aventura Rewards Program is provided by Merit Travel Group which is an independent travel agency, Registration Numbers: ON. 50010422, BC.33127/34799/34798, QC.7002238.

  9. These Terms will be governed by and interpreted in accordance with Canadian law. The courts in the Canadian province or territory in which the primary Cardholder of a Visa Account resides (or of Ontario, if he/she resides outside Canada) will have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes arising in connection with Aventura Points and/or these Terms.
